Refugio County crop tours are Wednesday
Production, storage and marketing of agricultural commodities plays an enormous role in the Crossroads economy, and one event aims to bring consumers and producers together to share in that heritage.
The 2013 Refugio County Crop Tours takes place Wednesday throughout the county.
The annual event is a chance to highlight agricultural production and provide information to growers and agri-businesses throughout the region, according to a Refugio County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension news release.
The day's educational programs include information from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, USDA Natural Resource and Conservation Service, Lanmon Aerial Photography, Refugio Groundwater District and others.
The morning program kicks off at 7 a.m., with registration and breakfast at Tivoli's Canales Cafe, 302 Main St. Meanwhile, the afternoon program begins at 4 p.m. at the Bonnie View Park and ends with a barbecue meal and social.
Each tour offers three CEU credits toward re-certification of pesticide applicator licenses, according to the release, while another credit for drift minimization is available during the morning session.
The program carries a $10 suggested registration fee.
