The most important part of fashion is learning what colors are key, what patterns are in and how to accommodate it all to your own individual style. Keeping an eye on hues that transition from season to season is the best thing you could ever do to get more bang for your buck.
Discussed in last week's fashion feature was the color palette of summer: oranges, reds, greens and yellows for a tropic chic look.
During New York Fashion Week, designers expressed the colors of fall 2013. Designer Trina Turk gave us a cheat sheet for a know-how guide to color. It included deeper greens, tone-on-tone jewel tones and scarves that were once seen on your summer vacation as a head wrap.
To get down to the basics, here are a few tips to keep you on your toes this summer when looking for the right transitional pieces and colors to carry into the fall:
Turk complemented layering pieces with a leather jacket, a wool coat and a funky, furry, throw-on vest. We can't even come to think of layering or coats - the words themselves make us Texans shudder as we approach the scorching hot months of summer.
The point is to focus on the colors featured on the runway, jewel tones: deep emerald greens, various purples, browns, deep oranges, maroons and cobalt blue.
All are also perfect colors of summer than can transition well into fall. All you will have to add in the upcoming season is coats to your wardrobe, and you'll be happy you stayed in the same color variations as presented at New York Fashion Week and in Turk's collection.
Think about adding in a bit of fresh color this season in the upcoming hues of fall. Right now, layer fall's top colors with white jeans, bright pinks and oranges and black skirts to make your look summer ready. When it comes time for fall, it will be an easier transition than you think - and a bargain-savvy move because you won't have to update your entire wardrobe.
