Kaelyn Diaz, 18, a graduate from West High School, is going to Victoria College in the Fall. She is working at Chick-fil-A during the summer.

When summer approaches, not every teenager is bumming around.

Some American teens make a choice to be employed during the summer, while others have to work to pay for personal and family bills.

Still others opt out of the summer job market, either so they can enjoy the time off from school and help take care of their families or simply because they can't find employment.

Regardless of the reasons, every year families discuss their teens finding jobs during the summer.

PRO: Summer jobs teach responsibility, goals

CON: Teens should focus on studying, being young
