From Las Vegas to Denver and other areas entirely, those behind Victoria's newest hotel say they traveled all over to bring the latest and greatest ideas to the Crossroads.

And that hard work pays off this week.

Hilton Garden Inn opens Thursday at 123 Huvar St. With its 118 rooms, it's Victoria's only full-service hotel, said Albert Mata, the business' director of sales.

"We wanted to bring a five-star feel to Victoria," he said of the hotel, which offers 18 suites, some of which include Jacuzzis. "This is something Victoria really needed."

Multiple ballrooms, a lobby fireplace, guest laundry and fitness center are among the amenities, Mata said, noting owners tried to bring details other area hotels don't yet offer.

The 24-hour business center, for instance, allows guests to print directly from their laptops in their rooms. When they are ready to retrieve the printout, they simply go down to the business center, key in a pass code and their stored work prints.

Meanwhile, an indoor/outdoor pool area, which includes two hot tubs, a children's water area and swim-up bar, is available not only for guests but also to rent out for parties.

The bridal preparation room - something Mata said no other Victoria hotel offers - comes free when a couple books a wedding at the hotel, while an outdoor lounge allows guests a place to visit and smoke in the otherwise smoke-free space. The hotel's full-service restaurant also strays from the traditional breakfast buffet.

Mata said he looks forward to opening and to showing Victoria just what the company has to offer. He encouraged people to stop in for a tour.

"I think everybody in Victoria needs to know we're here, and they need to see what we have to offer," he said.
