Raul Segura Jr., 30, of San Juan, died when a pipe fell on him Thursday night at a drilling site near Moulton. Segura leaves behind his wife and five children, all from San Juan.

A 30-year-old San Juan man died Thursday night when he was struck by a falling pipe at a drilling site outside Moulton.

Raul Segura Jr. was struck about 9:22 p.m. when the pipe fell while it was hoisted by workers at the site on County Road 274, just east of County Road 274A, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.

Segura was pronounced dead at Yoakum Community Hospital by Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Carol Renner. The judge ordered an autopsy be performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office in Austin.

Segura was working at the site for C&J Speciality Rental Tools, of Houston, said his wife, Yesika Segura, 30, of San Juan.

He began working at the site in October as a fracker and would work eight days on and four days off, she said. He left San Juan, which is in the Rio Grande Valley, on Wednesday.

Despite his unexpected death, Segura's wife said she has to remain strong for their five children, four boys and one girl. The oldest is 13.

In his spare time, Segura loved riding his Harley Davidson, fishing and hunting, but there was one thing he loved most.

"He loved spending as much time as he could with his family," she said.

Segura's funeral services are pending at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
