The Victoria College/UHV Library has received an $8,000 donation from the Victoria County Genealogical Society.
The donation will be used to enhance the history and heritage of Victoria County, said Doris Obsta, of the genealogical society. She said this was the fourth such gift to Victoria College, with a total of $38,000 given to the college over the past several years.
Obsta said the donation comes from money raised through the sale of "The History and Heritage of Victoria County, Texas" books, of which she is editor.
"We are grateful to the Genealogical Society," said Victoria College President Tom Butler. "Through their support and volunteerism, we have been able to enrich the experiences visitors have when researching family, state and county history."
He added that the library's Regional History Center is a premier resource for scholars and others interested in learning more and preserving our rich history.
"This gift will be used for a variety of things such as purchasing historical materials for the Regional History Center and digitalizing photos and documents," said Joe Dahlstrom, VC/UHV Library director.
Dahlstrom said the library donated office space in the library for the society to use in collecting and digitalizing materials.
"We've worked closely with the society for many years," he said.
