This week's spotlight mentor is VBEC honorary mentor Angie Stafford, of Mid-Coast Family Services, mentor of one student at Patti Welder Middle School.
How long have you been a mentor for the district?
Almost one year.
What made you decide to be a mentor?
I was introduced to the mentoring program through a guest speaker who spoke at a staff meeting in my office. I was enlightened to hear that I could make a difference in a child's life.
What do you feel you bring to the student?
A different perspective on learning and understanding.
What do you enjoy most about mentoring?
The one-on-one time, getting to know the students and knowing I can help them with the smallest gesture of mentoring.
What have you learned from the student, educational system, etc. that has enlightened you?
Having an extra class that helps students to understand the subject in a different way, a fun way.
