AARP Chapter 829-Victoria met at the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center, 603 E. Murray St., for its Feb. 26 meeting.

Dr. Efren Diaz DeLeon, president, presided at the meeting and welcomed members and guest.

Chaplain Natalie Gilbert led the invocation, followed by the pledges of allegiance to the United States flag and the Texas flag.

The speaker for the day was Robert Perez, registered respiratory therapist, with Citizens Medical Center's Sleep Center.

March 5-11 is National Sleep Awareness week, and Perez told the group the importance of getting a good night's sleep. Sleep affects many health issues, and we need eight hours of sleep each night. The new Citizens' Sleep Center is near the Citizens Health Plex on Zac Lentz Parkway and has private rooms with private bathrooms and state-of-the-art equipment.

Members reported 30 hours of volunteer service in the community for the month of February.

Happy Birthday was sung to Ann Carver, Betty McMuray and Margareta Silvas for their February birthdays.

The 2013 membership directories were distributed.

After the meeting, refreshments were served during the fellowship hour.

The next meeting will be March 26. The speaker will be O.C. Garza with the city of Victoria.
