Catholic Daughters plan games party

The Catholic Daughters, Court St. Ann No. 369 had a baby shower for the Gabriel Project during its regular meeting Feb. 4.

Stephanie Spear, representative with the Gabriel Project, spoke briefly of its needs and thanked the court for its continued support, gifts and monetary donations.

Regent Kathryn Ormsby opened the business meeting by welcoming everyone and led the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes and treasurer's reports were approved.

Libby Ramirez, vice regent, read correspondence and shared information on state and national news.

Quality of life reports followed. Joan Schramek, newsletter chairwoman, asked members to provide her with any new addresses to ensure the delivery of the newsletter. Donna Maxey, membership chairwoman, shared plans for the membership drive dinner scheduled during the next regular meeting. She encouraged members to provide her with names and addresses of prospective members so invitations could be mailed to them. Members were also asked to sign up to assist with the hosting of the event.

The annual clergy appreciation dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. March 19 and will again be a joint activity with the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1329. Lillian Berger, chairwoman, asked for volunteers to assist with the event.

Donna Moeller reported that the annual education contest is well under way, and entries are being picked up. Winners will be announced at the next meeting.

Quality of life committees have been very busy. Claudia Sheblak shared the monthly bingo from 2 to 3 p.m. every third Tuesday at the Nursing Home and Rehab Center continues to be well received. She stated that additional members would be welcome to come and assist.

Fun Day was held Jan. 29, and 107 guests attended, reported Sandra Genoway, chairwoman. She thanked Angie Easley and Rose Kouba for assisting. Joan Conaway reported she'd delivered card fronts to St. Jude's Children's Ranch in Boulder City, Nev., in January. Relay for Life chairwoman Barbara McCain gave a progress report on the upcoming event.

The spring games party is scheduled for April 14 at the KC Hall, and plans were announced. Reservations can be made by calling Joan Schramek at 361-485-2387 or Delores Schroller at 361-575-6111.

Under new business, the court agreed to use the monetary donations made to the court in memory of Dorothy Dornak, a recently deceased member, on a one-time scholarship in her memory. It also approved to sponsor a Catholic Knowledge Bowl team as requested by Sue Cotton.

Hostesses for the evening included Sandra Genoway Tonie Garcia, Donna Vanek and Cindy Hackbarth.

The next scheduled meeting was March 4.
