March is Desk and Derrick Clubs awareness month and orientation.
This is the time of year when prospective new members who work in the oil and gas or related industries are invited to attend our business meeting to learn about the benefits and opportunities the association has to offer.
About 2,500 women and men employed in or affiliated with the energy and allied industries make up the 59 clubs in the United States and Canada. Thousands of hours of education have been provided for members through monthly programs on the many facets of our industry and given by speakers ranging from company CEOs to oil-well firefighters. Special study courses, seminars and workshops provide opportunities for members to keep pace with the changes and technical advances taking place in the industry today.
Through fundraising, our clubs are able to give financial assistance through scholarships to eligible students attending accredited colleges on a full-time basis pursuing degrees in subjects related to the petroleum, energy and allied industries. Our association's motto says it all: Greater Knowledge - Greater Service. The motto was chosen in 1957 when the first club was chartered and continues to this day to provide motivation to continue on the roads to education.
The Desk and Derrick Club of Victoria will meet at 6 p.m. March 14 at The Club at Colony Creek. Please join us in learning more about our organization and what we have to offer to our area community. Contact Denise Becker at 361-920-9477 for any questions.
