Overnight fire destroys home; no one injured

A house in the 500 block of South Vine Street was reduced to charred debris about 3 a.m. Saturday when a fire began. The home was vacant and no one was injured, officials said.

A home in the 500 block of South Vine Street burned to the ground about 3 a.m. Saturday morning, but no one was injured.

The fire was reported at 2:55 a.m., said Victoria Fire Battalion Chief Clifton Bayer, and had completely engulfed the house when firefighters arrived.

The house was vacant, Bayer said, and the fire took about an hour to get under control.

No other homes in the area were damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
