T.J. Mooney topped all bowlers to earn the weekly high series honors during Sugar & Spice competition.

Mooney has fully recovered from a torn bicep muscle on his bowling arm that he suffered during last year's state tournament in April.

The forced rest from bowling for almost four months left him with too much unwanted free time. Once he was back bowling, he was in an environment he enjoys, which is blasting the pins.

This week he bowled games of 278, 202 and 238 for an excellent 718 total, which was one of several 700 sets he has bowled this season.

Senior bowler Steve Gritta rolled the second high total with a nice 256 high game contributing towards a 704 in the Over The Hill League.

Mike Stacy was the third bowler to break the 700 mark with two good sets of 701 and 266-699.

Mark Svatek earned an 11 in a row plaque from USBC for stringing 11 strikes in a row on his way to a 298 game.

Other scores of note for the men were Gary Hatter Sr (691), Steve Zeplin (688), Travis Arnold (266-686), Rene Silgero (261-683/654), Victor Thomas (683/656), Svatek (298-682), Jacob Silgero (254-680), Abel Garcia (269-675), Austin O'Brien (250-675), Joe Wittenburg (258-668), David Flores (264-667), Randy Vivero (662), Frank Suniga (277-661), Rick Kalmus 255-66), Shawn Miller (258), Chris Flores (256), Larry Boyd (253).

The father-son duo of Rene and Jacob Silgero seem to be battling for home bragging rights with father Rene edging Jacob 261-683 to 254-680.

Samantha Wharton posted the women's high total during Sundowner League competition. She started league play with a tremendous 268 high game and then followed with games of 219 and 160 to total 647 for the night.

Lynda Mikulec rolled the ladies second high total with a 225 high game helping towards a 623 set.

Other nice scores for the women were Carri Lee (216-588), I. Caballero 9218-580), Liz Martinez (234), Bailey Koebrick (232) and Leticia Popp (229).

Vera Cruz bowlers for the week were Cody Clayton 766 (Sugar & Spice) and Sharold Garrett 762 (Sunday Strikers).

The PBA League round five and the Earl Anthony Players Championship will be televised Sunday at noon on ESPN.
