Teen crashes car avoiding deer

An Aransas Pass man crashed his car early Wednesday morning while trying to avoid a deer on a rural Victoria County road.

At 5:40 a.m., Kristopher Thompson, 19, was traveling west on Farm-to-Market Road 616 near Malik Road when he swerved his 2001 Saturn station wagon to avoid a deer, said Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.

"He ran off the road and tried to correct, but was on a steep embankment and the vehicle rolled twice, landing on its tires," Bryant said.

Thompson, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Victoria Fire Department ambulance to Citizens Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Trooper Ronald Johnson investigated the crash. The Victoria County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
