Police close Navarro Street after chemical leak
Officials temporarily halted traffic on Navarro Street for several hours Friday night to clean up a hazardous chemical leak after a two-vehicle crash at Red River Street caused a truck to strike a transformer.
A 2006 Dodge Charger, driven by Marlee Mize, 22, of Austin, was northbound on Navarro Street about 8 p.m. when it collided with a 2000 Chevy Silverado, also traveling northbound on Navarro Street, said Victoria Police Officer Jeremy Buchhorn.
Mize was trying to make a U-turn when her car struck the pickup and caused it to crash into two utility poles and a transformer, Buchhorn said.
The driver of the Silverado, Antonio Campuzano Jr., 22, of Victoria, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, Buchhorn said.
AEP crews and the Victoria Fire Department worked to contain a fuel oil leak from the transformer.
Navarro Street was closed between Virginia Avenue and Red River Street for several hours.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
