Thumbs-up to Blanche De Leon and Frances Miller for their work making a handmade quilt to auction during the Warrior's Weekend Muster. We hope it sells for a good price.

Thumbs-up to the polo match at McFaddin Ranch on Saturday. We hope everyone has a good time and plenty of funds are raised for the Nave Museum.

Thumbs-up to all the area spelling bee champions. We wish you luck as you compete in the Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday in the Victoria College's Johnson Symposium. May the best speller win.

Thumbs-up to First Victoria National Bank, which plans to open two new locations in the Woodlands area of Houston. We are glad to see an area company prospering enough to open new branches.

Thumbs-up to Stan Kendrick and his wife, Irene, for forming the Crossroads Bluegrass, which performs at the American Legion Post in Victoria.

Thumbs-up to Pope Francis, the papacy's first-ever Argentinian and Jesuit. We look forward to seeing how he will lead in the years to come.

Thumbs-up to the filming of the final scenes for Bill Millet's PBS documentary "Texas Before the Alamo." We look forward to seeing the finished production.

Thumbs-up to the opening of a new Goodwill store location in Victoria.

Thumbs-up to the St. Patrick's Eve-Eve Party, which benefits the Bach Festival's music and education programs.

Thumbs-up to the DeLeon Elementary School production of "Spaced Out," a 2005 musical about the solar system. What a fun way to teach children about space and our universe.

Thumbs-up to the Journey and Odyssey Spring Break camps at the Texas Zoo. This was a fun way for students to learn about wildlife while enjoying spring break.

Thumbs-down to the break-in at Victoria East and West High School storage buildings.
