Bev Hoerig was named the February employee of the month at the University of Houston-Victoria. She is an instructional designer in the provost's office and has worked at UHV since 2001. Hoerig received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.

Veronica Gonzalez joined the University of Houston-Victoria as the marketing and recruiting coordinator in the school of arts and sciences. She recruits transfer students and updates marketing pieces for the school. She currently is earning her master's degree in publishing from UHV and has a fellowship with the American Book Review. Gonzalez previously worked as a copy editor and page designer for the Victoria Advocate.

Megan Perez was hired as a computer lab technician at the University of Houston-Victoria. She maintains the 10 labs at the university and dormitories. She is earning her Bachelor of Business Administration from UHV.

Mark Ward Sr., an assistant professor of communication at the University of Houston-Victoria, published two chapters in the edited volume "A Communication Perspective on Interfaith Dialogue," released in February by Lexington Books.

Victoria College has hired a number of new faculty and staff for the spring semester. Among the new hires are: Ashley Bergeron, academic adviser; Whitney Bolger, Title V academic adviser; Karen Countryman, ADN instructor; Carlos Norman, finance department accounting clerk II; and Destiny Olson, Workforce and Continuing Education Lifelong Learning program specialist.

Senior Helpers announced that the following caregivers have achieved levels of service with the company: Elvira Williams, diamond level; Louise Riggs, bronze level; and Mary Rodriguez, bronze and silver levels. Caregiver levels are based on the amount of service hours with the company as well as continuous training completed.

Ashley J. Pall, attorney at the law firm Kliem and Associates, completed training and received certification for mediation in Texas and - in the advanced course - for family mediation. Diane R. Kliem, attorney/CPA at the law firm Kliem and Associates, also completed the training and certification.
