Five suspected illegal immigrants, one of them a juvenile, were detained after a traffic stop Monday morning.

About 7:40 a.m., Victoria police stopped a Pontiac Grand Am on U.S. Highway 59 at Sparkman Road because the occupants were not wearing seat belts, said Lt. Mike Hernandez, Victoria Police Department spokesman.

Five people in the vehicle, including a 16-year-old, were discovered to be without proper documentation.

The suspected illegal immigrants, from Honduras and El Salvador, were taken to the Victoria County Jail until Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel could take them into custody.
