A Victoria County jury acquitted a 25-year-old man of various sex charges after they deliberated for about four hours Wednesday.

Jose Moreira-Lorenzo, of Victoria, was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under age 14 May 9, 2010 and May 20, 2010.

Moreira-Lorenzo, who was a family friend of the victim, was also accused of indecency with a child on May 20, 2010.

His attorney, Stephen Wood Byrne, declined to comment about the case.

"I always respect the jury's verdict, no matter what it is," said Eli Garza, the first assistant Criminal District Attorney.

He said he planned to call some of the jurors to see why they reached that decision but said cases where the victim makes a delayed outcry are more difficult.

"For about two years, the child didn't notify anyone of the allegation," Garza said. "That makes it difficult to get the physical and medical evidence that we can use at trial."
