Get those youngsters' artwork ready because our 2013 Youth Art Show competition is here.
This show, sponsored by the Victoria Art League, is open to all students from first to 12th grade.
Check our Facebook page or our website for information and instructions.
Entries will be accepted at the Art League at 905 S. Bridge St. from 1-7 p.m. Thursday or from 1-6 p.m. Friday. Be sure to read the instructions online or call to be sure artwork is properly prepared for hanging.
Cash prizes will be offered for different age levels and various categories. There is a $5 entry fee that will cover up to three entries.
We are concentrating on encouraging our youth from the Crossroads area to get involved in the visual arts and have tried to get the word out so we can have a really big showing of what our young people can do.
For more information, call the Art League from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
We continue to have a busy schedule with Paint the Town taking place almost every day. Everybody has a great time and takes their finished painting home with them. Eunice Collins does a great job hosting these and offers snacks, drinks and assistants to make sure you have an enjoyable experience.
Jim Feig is starting a beginners digital photography class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. For anyone interested in how to take great photos with your digital camera, he's the man to teach you how. Call him at 361-576-0578.
Don't forget Sonny Timme's class if you are interested in various painting mediums. He will start you as a beginner or take you where you are and make you better. He has two classes during the week, one from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and another from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Contact him at 361-578-8722 for more information.
Michele Evans continues with her children's classes and now has her summer schedule ready for you to sign up your child or your grandchild.
These hours, dates and costs can be obtained by calling Evans at 361-572-8093 or 361-649-8092. She can also be emailed at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also have some new classes and workshops being offered if the interest is there: Stained glass with William Vickery, of Edna, on Saturdays and watercolor with Gerald Bienvenu, of Rockport. Both gentlemen are excited about teaching at our wonderful facility, so call 361-572-0825 if interested in either of these opportunities. Times and dates will be determined by your calls.
Our new roof will soon be a reality, as Easley Roofing has been awarded the contract, and work will start shortly. Thank you again to the Victoria community for all your support in raising the money to accomplish this renovation. You know you are all welcome anytime.
Just as the trees and plants are budding, your art league is blooming with excitement and progress.
Bill Bauer is president of the Victoria Art League.
