CASA kicking off Child Abuse Prevention Month

Golden Crescent Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is hosting a 5K Superhero Fun Run/Walk on April 20 at Riverside Park. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero. Adult registration is $55. Children up to age 17 can take part for $25. Registration is available through the CASA website. For more information, call 361-573-3734.
Golden Crescent Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will begin observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month with a Cookie Kickoff at 4 p.m. Monday at the Hiller House, 3003 N. Vine St.
The annual event marks the beginning of the designation of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and will feature the reading of a proclamation by Victoria Mayor Will Armstrong.
Other guest speakers are expected to include Debbie Ramirez, Golden Crescent CASA volunteer coordinator/recruiter; Victoria County District Attorney Steve Tyler; Maria Flores, executive director of The Harbor Advocacy Center, and Ann Alexander, director of Norma's House.
Gary Moses will be the master of ceremonies.
The program will conclude with an eco-friendly release of a blue balloon for each current CASA case.
Golden Crescent CASA trains volunteers who are appointed by the courts to speak up for the best interests of child abuse victims.
