An annual tradition with humble beginnings was voted as the best Crossroads holiday event for its second consecutive year.
Cuero's Christmas in the Park brings bright, shining lights stretched over hundreds of structures, some up to 37-feet tall, designed with the Christmas holiday in mind.
A winter events committee with the Cuero Development Corporation, are the lead coordinators of Christmas in the Park.
"We just started getting larger and larger," said committee vice chairperson Jo Ann Edge. "It's going to be even more beautiful this next year."
Bright lights glimmer from the city's main strip, inviting passersby and community members to view illuminating pieces on display in the park.
"We're very excited about winning," Edge said.
Edge said the event saw about 95,000 spectators and a marriage proposal in 2012.
The ad-hoc committee, entirely dependant on volunteers, is in need of more members, Edge said.
"We are all volunteers who are on the committee, and we do get help from the city of Cuero's electric and parks departments, the Stevenson Unit's community squad and from other volunteers in the community," Edge said. "Everybody who's on the committee plays a very important role. We all have our own responsibilities."
