Best Teacher: David Pozzi
Although his subject is not a popular one for most high school students, calculus instructor David Pozzi was voted best teacher in the Crossroads in the Advocate's Best of the Best competition
"I'm not retired yet," said the 69-year-old, long-time champ. "I just teach a couple of classes part time."
For the last 45 years, Pozzi has taught the most difficult level of math known to high school students at St. Joseph High School.
"If I can get them to understand the idea and the problems it works out pretty well," Pozzi said. "We do lots of what I call 'guided practice.'"
Last year was Pozzi's first time to win the award.
"It's an honor," Pozzi said. "But to me, I think I just had a whole lot more former students voting for me - this doesn't mean I'm a better teacher than anybody else."
Pozzi said students should work hard not to give up on their dreams.
"Don't get discouraged," Pozzi said. "Keep working and trying different things until you find what's best for you."
