Coleto Creek may feel like it's in the middle of nowhere, but the creek definitely has a lot to offer, which is why Advocate readers voted it the best lake in the Crossroads.
The creek draws people from the Crossroads along with anyone within a 170-mile radius, said Wilfred Korth, chief ranger of 30 years.
"It gets pretty busy," he said.
Aside from a 3,100-acre lake, the park offers 190 acres of other amenities, such as campgrounds, grassy areas with benches for picnicking, a lighted fishing pier, hike-and-bike trails and bird viewing, just to name a few.
The summer is the busiest time, he said, where the park can see up to about 3,000 people in one weekend.
Because the lake is not a water supply reservoir, it holds up pretty well during droughts, which is one of the reasons Korth believes people keep coming back for more.
"It's nice to get feedback from the public and know that they do enjoy our facilities and appreciate what we try to do," he said.
