Sundowner season winds down

May 1, 2013 at 12:01 a.m.

Dave Matthews led a trio of 700 bowlers in the last night of the 2012-13 Sundowner League fall season to earn the high weekly honors.

Matthews was on target with games of 237, 234, and a final 257 game to post a 728 series.

Gary Hatter Jr. and Craig Hoff also finished Sundowner action in great fashion with sets of 279-706 and 278-704 respectively.

Other scores of note for the men were Rene Silgero (246-698), Bruce Hammack (280-697), Steve Dickinson (268-688/662), Mike Stacy (679), Mike Osterson (268-676), Danny Reissig (675), Mark Svatek (267-674), Tim Bassano (258-674), Michael Conchola (671), Joseph Blount (669), Jesse Longoria (256-667), Joey Watson (258-666), Steve Zeplin (656), Willie Reyna (652), Sterling Kocian (650), Calvin Bigham (648), Mark Redding (646), Jordan Glass (279), Victor Thomas (267), Paul Smith (254) and Jon Parratt (249).

The women also hammered the pins last week to post great scores.

Lynda Mikulec led the onslaught while competing in the Sugar & Spice League. She produced games of 213, 224, and 227 to total 664.

Christine Speer was a close second while competing in the same league with games of 225, 219 and 215 for a 659 series.

Samantha Wharton closed out the Sundowner League with a very nice 251 high game and 639 set.

Also breaking the 600 mark were Lori Heil 215-623 and Ida Caballero 600.

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers for the week were Craig Hoff 749 and Samantha Wharton 711, both of the Sundowner League.

With the end of fall season fast approaching, summer league schedules are available at the Century Lanes front desk.

Contact Robert Pfeil at 361-582-0921 for summer league information at the Woodlawn Lanes.

The Victoria USBC Association will conduct its annual membership meeting Saturday at the Vera Cruz Restaurant.

The association directors will meet at 9:30 a.m., and the general membership meeting will start at 10:00 a.m.

Local members are urged to attend so that their votes will count towards election of directors and hear committee reports.

The results have been posted after three weekends of competition at the Texas State USBC Open Tournament now being held in San Antonio. You can log on to texasbowling.com and see the latest results.

Several local teams competed this past weekend, but only Jacob Silgero made the top 10 list in the standings. With a 793 series in Div. 5 singles, Silgero is currently in second place. Jared Cotter from Baytown is in first place with a score of 820.

With plenty of time left before the tournament ends, maybe we can have local bowlers make the leader board.
