Catholic Daughters hosts meeting

Catholic Daughters, Court St. Ann No. 369, met April 1 for their regular meeting. Regent Kathy Ormsby led the opening prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. She welcomed and congratulated the winners of the Catholic Daughters Education Contest and their families. Geraldine Jurica and Donna Moeller, contest co-chairs, presented certificates and awards to the individual winners. A reception honoring the honorees and their families followed the presentation.
Upon conclusion of the reception, Ormsby called the business meeting to order. Minutes and the treasurer's reports were posted, discussed and approved. Libby Ramirez, vice regent, read thank-you notes from OLV for donations for library books and toward the Adopt-a-Student Program, from Incarnate Word Sisters from Nazareth Academy, the Sisters of Incarnate Word Mother House and Bishop Fellhauer for honoring them with the Clergy Appreciation Dinner. She also read thank-you notes from the CDA Court No. 206 in Yoakum expressing their gratitude for sending a representative from our court to celebrate their anniversary and the family of Kenneth Ray Warren.
Reports on leadership, spiritual enhancement, youth and education and quality of life committees followed. Lillian Berger thanked members who helped with the Clergy Appreciation Dinner. Members were reminded that scholarship applications are Tuesday, April 30, and need to be sent to Susana Moya, chairman. Sandra Genoway announced that the Senior Social was April 30 at the KC Hall from 1 to 4 p.m.
Under unfinished business, plans were finalized for the games party April 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the KC Hall. Rose Curtis showed the gift basket of items contributed by members to be sold to the highest bidder in the silent auction at Relay for Life scheduled for April 26. She also reminded members that donations for luminaries have to be in by April 21. Ann Martin, state chairman for Read Across America, shared a brief report on the importance of the program and what it continues to do.
Regent Ormsby announced that Court St. Ann will sponsor the institution of Holy Family's new CDA court. The institution will be Sunday, April 28, during the 11 a.m. Mass, and Court St. Ann will host the reception. She also appointed a financial review committee consisting of Claudia Schoener, Geraldine Jurica, Joan Schramek, Laverne Kesel, Leona Sedlar and Susana Moya. The committee will meet at the home of Moya. Georgia Blake was thanked for donating a silver tea service to the court. Hostesses for the evening were Geraldine Jurica, Donna Moeller, Wendy Hrncir and Libby Ramirez. The next meeting is Monday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m.
