Jackson County indicts former Nueces County DA
Anna Jimenez, a former prosecutor and Nueces County's first Hispanic Republican district attorney, was indicted by a Jackson County grand jury on aggravated perjury charges.
Jimenez, of Corpus Christi, is the assistant public defender for the Regional Public Defender's Office for Capital Cases for the state of Texas.
The official indictment, filed April 5, cites four counts of deceiving and falsifying information in relation to a 2012 defense of an Edna man, Christian Blair Robinson, 22, who was charged in a 2010 capital murder case for killing his 5-month-old son.
Robinson is scheduled to go to trial in September.
The indictment alleges Jimenez made false statements about four witnesses, including a Department of Public Safety trooper refusing to participate in interviews with mitigation specialists or investigators.
The document claims the witness interviews may have affected the outcome of the case.
Jackson County District Attorney Bobby Bell said he cannot comment on pending cases.
Jimenez was released on $10,000 bail.
Gov. Rick Perry appointed Jimenez the Nueces County district attorney in 2010.
