Husband and wife duo win city's mixed senior tournaments

John and Barbara Schmidt became the first husband and wife duo to win their respective bowling tournaments at the Victoria City Mixed Senior Tournament in the same year.

Congratulations to the husband and wife team of John and Barbara Schmidt for winning their respective Victoria City Mixed Senior Tournament All Events titles recently.

The tournament was at Century Lanes on April 20 and April 21.

John posted a 661 set in the singles event and a 632 in the team event for a combined score of 1,293.

Barbara led her team with a 689 series and added 570 in the singles event for an all events score of 1,259.

They became the first husband and wife team to win the senior championship in the same year.

Previously, Charlie Finnegan had earned the men's senior title in the back-to-back years of 2004 and 2005. His wife, Deanna, won the women's senior title last year.

The Senior Mixed City Tournament Champions are based on the highest six game all events handicap score, regardless of age or each gender.

John and Barbara were also on the winning team, Two + Two, which rolled a score of 2,503. Individual handicap scores on the winning roster were John (632), Barbara (689), Winona Klacman (639) and Gloria Billo (543).

The team Senior Pinjammers (2,439) won second-place money. Team members and scores were Felix Rivera (582), Rosalie Roemer (631), David Flores (591) and John Figueroa (625).

Carol Goode won the women's singles event with a score of 660. Bobbie Long placed second with a score of 645, and Minnie Farias earned third-place money with a 642 series.

Matt Mathieu won the men's singles crown with a 673 series.

Schmidt placed second with his score of 661. Rusty Cooper (651) captured third-place money, and Billy Mouliere (640) earned the fourth and last money spot.

The senior bowlers also competed for all events titles based on age.

In the men's division, Class A (age 70 and over), Schmidt won with his score of 1,284. Class B (age 63-69) was won by Mathieu with 1,255, and Class C (age 55-62) was won by Steve Gritta with 1,227.

Winona Klacman won the women's Class A all events with a score of 1,252. Barbara Schmidt won Class B with her score of 1,259, and Goode took the Class C division with a score of 1,211.

The Schmidts have really improved on their bowling during the senior league in the last two months, and the improvement showed up during this tournament.
