Mother suspected of DWI after hitting house with children on board (Video)
A 36-year-old Victoria woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 on Friday after she crashed a truck into a home.
No one was in the home when Sarah Meyer, who was driving west on Tweed Street, ran the stop sign and rammed her Toyota truck through a wall and into the living room in the 700 block of Edinburgh Street, said Sgt. Julian Huerta.
Meyer and the three children she had in the truck were not injured, Huerta said.
Chris Saldivar and her husband, Joe Saldivar, own the home. Both left their work when they were notified of the crash about 3:30 p.m.
"We are going to be OK. I just thank the good Lord no one was injured," Chris Saldivar said.
Huerta said the Victoria building inspector found the structure to be structurally sound.
Chris Saldivar said the couple planned to stay in the house.
Robert Hutchison, who was driving down Edinburgh Street, witnessed the accident.
"I remember seeing the truck driving down Tweed, and then I heard this big crash and looked over, and the truck was in the house," Hutchison said, adding that he quickly dialed 911 then helped Meyer and the children from the truck.
The three children in the truck were picked up at the scene by guardians before Meyer was arrested.
Meyer is being held at the Victoria County Jail and is set to be arraigned on the felony charge Saturday, jail officials said.
