El Campo boys, Cuero girls each tie for 11th place

AUSTIN - Cuero and El Campo both completed play in the state golf tournament Friday with similar results.
The Ricebirds finished tied for 11th with Rockdale after shooting a team round of 352. They got another strong round from Colin Quinn, who followed up Thursday's 84 with a round of 82.
For the Ricebirds, Cody Marquardt followed up Thursday's 96 with a 10-shot improvement, posting an 86 on Friday. Also, Chad Quinn shot a 94, Blake Krpec improved 11 strokes from his Thursday score with a 90 on Friday, and Ethan Martin shot a final round 100.
Andrews (316 316-631) beat out Argyle for the Class 3A boys team title by a stroke. James Sandoval of Pleasanton won individual medalists with rounds of 72 and 75.
The Cuero girls wrapped up the tournament also tied for 11th place, led by Chelsea Veit, who followed up Thursday's 95 with a four-stroke improvement, posting a 91 on Friday.
The Lady Gobblers shot team rounds of 431 and 428 to tie with Bridgeport.
Cuero's Cassidy Blackwell posted a round of 104 on Friday, Mary Kate Krueger shot a round of 109, Kaelen Sievers shot a second round 124 and Hannah Lucas shot a 127 on the final day.
In the Class 2A girls field, Hallettsville's Sarah Wheelock shot a second day 91 and finished 16th overall.
