College Q&A: Summer accommodations available at Jaguar Hall, Jaguar Court
I'm planning a conference this summer and searching for affordable housing options for out-of-town attendees. Does the University of Houston-Victoria rent out residence hall rooms in the summer?
From mid-May until the end of July, the University of Houston-Victoria residence halls can serve as a place to stay for groups in need of accommodations.
During past summers, church groups, summer interns, sports teams and organizers of conferences and family reunions have rented rooms at UHV's two residence halls - Jaguar Hall and Jaguar Court.
While dorm life may spark thoughts of loud music and dirty laundry, UHV residence halls are clean, quiet and a good value.
Rooms in Jaguar Hall, 2705 Houston Highway, and Jaguar Court, 2605 Houston Highway, rent for $45 for a single room or $55 for a double room. Each room is equipped with desks, dressers, beds, a flat screen TV with cable, free Wi-Fi and a private bathroom. Parking is free, and laundry facilities are on site. Jaguar Hall has a pool.
Visitors can bring their own linens and towels or rent them for their stay. Jaguar Hall Dining is open to visitors for lunch and dinner, and catering also is available.
While the residence halls are open to all ages in the summer, Kim Pickens, UHV facilities sales coordinator, said it might be an especially appealing option for groups with high school students.
"Getting young people used to being on a college campus can help make it an easier transition later when they attend college," Pickens said. "Since the students become accustomed to living and eating in the residence halls, they start to get comfortable with the university setting."
In addition to accommodations, UHV also may be an attractive option for holding conferences, business meetings or workshops. A number of different meeting spaces can be rented in the university's academic buildings or residence halls.
