Juan Medellin, with the VFW Post 4146, prepares to collect Buddy Poppy donations from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4146 will hold its annual Buddy Poppy fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at various locations around Victoria, including Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply, Cimarron Junction, Cimarron Express, McCoy's Building Supply, Walgreens and Dick's Food Store.

Veterans will be carrying buckets to collect the donations that will go toward helping veterans in the Victoria area that are in need.

In 1924, the VFW registered the name Buddy Poppy with the U.S. Patent Office. It represents the blood shed by American military service members and reminds us of their sacrifices.

The Buddy Poppy fundraiser is assembled by disabled and needy veterans in VA hospitals.

The Buddy Poppy drives are used for aid, relief and comfort of needy veterans of the armed forces and their dependents.
