Editor, the Advocate:
Apathy is our worst enemy.
Most Victorians don't pay any attention to what goes on in the local government. Major issues are discussed and decided upon by a handful of elected officials with very few people in the audience. How do you stand on issues regarding economic development, infrastructure improvements, public safety, beautification, environmental issues, water supply, debt service, etc.? Our council needs to hear from you either by mail, phone or podium Tuesday evenings. If you don't, they will follow their own agenda, which may or may not be in your best interests. Be sure the person sitting in that seat knows your thoughts on the issues.
Our next election is May 11, and early voting has already started. We have many candidates this year. Before you vote, study their basic goals and explore any hidden agendas. Don't miss your opportunity to speak your mind by voting at the ballot box as well as attending City Council meetings or watching on TV. Don't put it off. Do it today. Decisions are being made. Be a part of the solution!
Please vote for Tom Halepaska, an experienced, forward-thinking businessman who votes for the best interests of Victoria.
