The Marsha Shanklin Foundation recently donated $48,000 to the Victoria College Foundation to establish The Marsha Shanklin Foundation Endowed Scholarship.

The endowment was funded with $45,000, and an additional $3,000 were donated to be used for immediate scholarships.

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student each from Victoria East, Victoria West and St. Joseph high schools for the 2013-14 Victoria College academic year.

"The Victoria College Foundation is honored to receive this donation," said Amy Mundy, VC Foundation executive director. "The generosity of the Marsha Shanklin Foundation will help students succeed for many years to come."

As a teacher, volunteer and supporter, Marsha Shanklin's legacy lives on through the foundation that bears her name.

Shanklin taught at the Devereux Foundation and later became a licensed real estate agent working for Woolson Real Estate and then a real estate broker owning her own business, Shanklin Properties.

She was a member of the Victoria Board of Realtors and the Pilot Club. Shanklin died Sept. 20, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
