5 people injured in wreck near Telferner

A black GMC Yukon lies on its top near the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 north and Farm-to-Market Road 1686 after a two-vehicle collision. All five occupants in the Yukon were transported with non life-threatening injuries and the two occupants in the other vehicle, a white box truck, refused treatment. No citations were issued as the wreck remains under investigation.

Five people were taken to Citizens Medical Center Monday after a two-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1686 and U.S. Highway 59 north near Telferner.

The five people were traveling in a black GMC Yukon. Two other people, traveling in a white box truck, refused treatment, said Roger Hempel, Victoria Fire Department battalion chief.

The sport utility vehicle was traveling north through the intersection on U.S. 59 while the driver of the box truck was traveling east on the farm road.

The driver of the box truck stopped then accelerated, clipping the SUV, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Jeremiah Collins. The SUV spun two times, then rolled, coming to rest on its roof.

The driver of the box truck said a large mirror blocked his view of the SUV, the trooper said.

The intersection is controlled by a blinking red light and stop signs on the farm road.

The names of the injured and the drivers were not available Monday night.
