Area athletes compete at national meet

Texas A&M-Kingsville's C.J. Griggs and Amber Perry missed qualifying for the finals in their respective events Thursday at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Pueblo, Colo.

Griggs, a Van Vleck graduate, placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 10.5 inches.

Perry, a Goliad graduate, was 10th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.72 seconds, just off her personal best of 54.69.

Griggs, a junior, will compete in the triple jump Saturday. He won the event as a freshman.

At the NCAA Division III meet in La Crosse, Wis., Trinity University's Justin Campbell finished 10th in the discus.

Campbell, a Victoria Memorial graduate, had a throw of 161-3. He will compete in the shot put Saturday.
