Victoria County Genealogical Society holds meeting
The Victoria County Genealogical Society met for its monthly meeting May 13. It was called to order by Kenneth Booth, president. The minutes and the financial reports were approved. There was a discussion about the newsletter "Tiny Acorn and the Crossroads," which will be digitalized and managed by the publishing committee with Judy Turner being the editor. The membership chairman reported we have 124 paid members.
The program chairman stated the meeting June 10 will be given by the Victoria County Clerk and will be about preserving county records. The program for this meeting was presented by John Kisalus. He spoke and showed video pictures of the restoration of the J.C. Burrus House in Benoit, Miss. The home had been damaged during a tornado, which took the roof and porch off. He told of the time and patience it took to restore each room, and the floors which were damaged, back to its original look. It was a beautiful, two-story home and was featured in a movie.
The next meeting will be June 10 at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 2105 N. Ben Jordan St. Members are encouraged to come, and visitors are always welcome. For more information, contact Kenneth Booth at 361-575-7584 or Louise Browning at 361-782-2171.
