A flash flood watch is in effect until Friday evening for the San Antonio River, affecting Goliad, Calhoun and Victoria counties.
The combination of runoff from heavy rains upstream and the possibility of further rainfall may send the river near or above flood stage within the next few days, the National Weather Service said.
The river is expected to be at its highest level near Goliad between Wednesday and Friday evenings, the weather service said. At 8 a.m. Sunday the river was at 8.8 feet. Flood stage is 25 feet.
The river is forecast to crest just above minor flood stage in the middle of the week, the weather service said. If the river reaches 30 feet, moderate lowland flooding occurs, covering much of the camping area at Goliad State Park.
