Goliad High School Principal Emilio Vargas III was recommended Monday as the lone finalist for the school district's superintendent position.
The recommendation came during a special board of trustees meeting Monday, superintendent Christy Paulsgrove said.
Goliad received 26 applicants for the job and narrowed the list of candidates to five last week, Paulsgrove said.
Paulsgrove, the first woman superintendent in Goliad, announced her retirement in April. She has been superintendent since 2009.
