Art Corner: Dalhart Windberg, VAL Christmas Bazaar, coming up this month
This month, we have two major events coming up at the Victoria Art League.
Dalhart Windberg will be our demonstrator at our monthly meeting and will follow that up with a three-day workshop in oil painting.
We are also going to kick off our annual Christmas Bazaar later this month.
Yes, nationally known artist Windberg along with his artist son, Michael, will be in our fair city to share their knowledge and experience in oil painting with us. Dalhart will be the demonstrator at our meeting at 2 p.m. Nov. 10. He will show and tell us how he creates his fantastic oil paintings.
I have said this about other artists we have had at our demonstrations, but if you have never been to a meeting or demonstration, this is one you don't want to miss.
He will follow this up Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with a three-day workshop in oil painting. We are fortunate to have an artist such as him with an international reputation here in Victoria.
I believe there are some openings even now, so some of you might take this opportunity to learn from him while you have the chance. Call Peggy Yandell at 361-935-5549 to sign up or for more information.
As I mentioned, our annual Christmas Bazaar is fast approaching, beginning Nov. 23 and continuing through Dec. 21. This will be a great time to come and shop for some unique gifts for Christmas or other gifts for that special someone. We will start our bazaar Nov. 23 with a special day with refreshments, activities for the kids, door prizes and extended hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We hope all of you will take part of your day and come out to share our day.
Our Fall Art Show was a huge success with many very good entries. We had the reception Oct. 20 and handed out the cash prizes for Best of Show to Dave Ludlow, Best in Beginning Category to Donald Blavier and Best in Intermediate Category to Lisa Gabrysch, and I won the Best in Advanced Category. We still have the People's Choice Award to be given at the end of the show, so come to the Art League, see the artwork and who won ribbons and vote for who you think should get the People's Choice Award.
We have new workshops starting this month with Brenda Rose teaching how to make tile mosaic stepping stones. Rose will teach three separate two-day workshops. The first is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday. The next is 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 19 and Nov. 21 and finally 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 9-10. Call Rose at 361-782-8339 for more information.
Gerald Bienvenu, of Rockport, will teach a three-day workshop in watercolor. Call him for time, dates and more information at 205-393-9455.
Jim Feig will offer a beginner's digital photography class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays throughout the month. Contact him at 361-576-0578.
Sonny Timme teaches adult beginners or those with experience who would like more instruction. Call him about the various media he can help you with and other information at 361-578-8722.
Paint the Town is busy as ever with classes almost every weekday. Call Eunice Collins about classes or special events at 361-576-4043.
Other artists we will have in the future are Rita Kirkman, who teaches pastels (contact her on her on her website, ritakirkman.com, to sign up) and Mark Keathly, who teaches oil painting. Call Yandell for information at 935-5549.
We at the Victoria Art League will continue to offer you the best opportunities to see, experience and learn from a variety of artists. Be sure to make plans to come by the Art League at 905 S. Bridge St. and see the great work of artists in the area. It will be worth your time, and we will be glad you made our efforts worthwhile. You can find us online at victoriaartleague.net, on Facebook at Victoria ArtLeague or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
