Receipts: 1,610

Had 161 cows and 10 bulls. The packer market was steady with last week's market. Market had been lower earlier in the week, but today, the market was back about where it was last week.

The calf market was solid throughout all classes. Buyers are beginning to get a little more picky because of health issues with hot days and cool nights. Record high prices the last two weeks have been due some correction, so some classes are $1 to $3 off their record highs. All in all, cattle are still selling strong.

Packer bulls: Heavyweights, $88-$92; lower grades, $70-$85.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$74; boning cows, $65-$81; canners and cutters, $80-$83; light and weak, $38-$52.

Palpated dry cows (11 bred cows): $108-$111; pairs: none.

Steer calves: (under 200) none; (200-250) $194-$200; (250-300) $187-$222; (300-350) $179-$210; (350-400) $181-$210; (400-450) $172-$204; (450-500) $145-$200; (500-600) $162-$196; (550-600) $156-$179; (600-700) $140-$164; (700-800) $137-$141.

Compared to our last sale: Calves and yearlings sold steady. Packer cows sold steady.

Compared to last week: The market was stronger again this week with most better quality classes of calves selling $2 to $4 higher. No. 1 550- to 650-pound steers sold $4 to $6 higher. Lightweights continue strong. Demand was extremely good.

Packer cows and bulls sold $3 to $4 lower on about 225 head total.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $70-$84; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $58-$70; lightweight canner cows, $48-$58.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, none; utility and cutter bulls, $84-$88; lightweight canner bulls, $76-$84.
