Zombies have taken a big bite out of Victoria.

Thursday night, zombies will take over the silver screen at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts as "Buck Wild" premieres in the Crossroads.

The movie, written by Matthew Albrecht and Tyler Glodt, was shot in 2011 in Goliad and other Crossroads locations.

This will be the first time for people who were extras or helped fund the movie to see the finished product, said Albrecht, of Victoria.

Since the film was shot, he and Glodt, who is not from Victoria but has family from Cuero, have taken the film to several differentnational and international film festivals. The film has also collected a number of awards along its journey, including the Cinema Dulce Best of the Fest from the Hill Country Film Fest in Fredericksburg.

"This will be the most close to home and close to heart," he said.

The one-night premiere is sponsored by the Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival and presented by the Victoria Television Group.

"Its a great opportunity to showcase local talent," said Anthony Pedone, executive director of the film festival.

The movie extras include area celebrities such as Victoria Sheriff Michael T. O'Connor, Walter Womack and the news anchors of News Channel 25, who had cameos.

Pedone, of Victoria, reviewed the film for the film festival, but wasn't able to show it because Albrecht and Goldt had committed to a premiere in Dallas the same weekend.

"It's absolutely fantastic. Great. Technically executed," Pedone said. "Great acting, tight story and funny."

He said he's not a big fan of horror movies but said "Buck Wild" did a great job of combining the comedy and horror genres.

After the premiere, Pedone will moderate a question-and-answer session with the directors of the "Buck Wild" on stage at the Welder Center. Writers Albrecht and Glodt will be there, along with one of the producers, Christian Sosa.

"Buck Wild" is expected to be released in February by Millennium Films, which is a major distributor of independent films, through DVD rental companies, including RedBox, Netflix, AppleTV and On Demand, as well as retailers.
