From left, Tito Myers, who passed away earlier this year, sits on a bench outside the Dixie Chicken in College Station with his sisters Haley and Danyelle. Proceeds from a barbecue benefit Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall will help the family defray medical expenses associated with Danyelle, who needs another open-heart surgery, and Tito.

Benefit for Danyelle Myers

• WHEN: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday

• WHERE: Holy Family Catholic Church Hall, 704 Mallette Drive

• WHAT: Barbecue brisket with all the trimmings, $7 per plate

• FOR MORE INFORMATION: Call Norma Burgos at 361-648-0816.

Fifteen-year-old Danyelle Myers, of Victoria, was born with a rare heart condition that affects blood flow to her heart.

Her older brother, Tito Myers, died earlier this year of a similar condition.

"Danyelle is a beautiful girl who is just like her brother and has a great love for God and life," said her uncle, Carlos Burgos.

A benefit to help the family defray medical expenses associated with both children will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall in Victoria.

Barbecue brisket plates will be sold for $7 each. The event will also include an auction and raffle.

One open-heart surgery failed to correct Danyelle's problem, so she needs another in the near future, the uncle said.
