Israel Perez III, 27, of Edna, was taken to Citizens Medical Center after hitting a dead cow on the 6600 block of state Highway 185 around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

A man injured in a wreck involving a cow was released from the Citizens Medical Center on Thursday.

Israel Perez III, 27, of Edna, was driving his 2000 Ford Explorer south on the outside lane in the 6660 block of state Highway 185 about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when he struck the dead cow, causing his vehicle to roll over several times, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Spokesman Gerald Bryant.

The cow had been struck minutes before by a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Lonnie Merrell, 56, of Pettus. Merrell was uninjured, Bryant said.
