Judge Dan Gilliam

County Court-at-Law 2 Judge Dan Gilliam announced Friday he will run for re-election.

Gilliam will run as a Republican.

Gilliam earned his doctorate of jurisprudence from the South Texas College of Law in Houston in 1986.

He began practicing soon after, serving time both as a commercial law litigator and as an assistant criminal district attorney.

Gilliam took the bench Jan. 1, 2011.

During his first term as judge, he served on the Victoria County juvenile board, continued the driving while intoxicated court program and created a separate probate docket for cases involving the estates of deceased people and guardianships of incapacitated people, among other things.

"My record in office also reflects that the appellate courts have affirmed my decisions in every case that has been appealed to a higher court," Gilliam said.

He and his wife, Jamie, have been married for 29 years. They have two daughters: Valerie, 23, and Annie, 18.
