Two Victoria men killed in Goliad County wreck
Two men died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 59 in Goliad County near the Bee County line.
Stanley Parry, 58, and Brett Morgan, 46, both of Victoria, were pronounced dead at the scene after the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe they were in crossed the center stripe and stuck a Meridian motor home towing a sports utility vehicle, said Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant.
Parry, the driver of the Tahoe, was traveling west on U.S. 59 about 2:43 p.m. when he crossed the center stripe for an unknown reason, Bryant said.
Steven Cornelius, 65, and Julia Cornelius, 58, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., were traveling east on the highway in the motor home.
The wreck shut down the road for several hours, diverting traffic to access roads around the wreck, Bryant said.
The Corneliuses were transported by ambulance to Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville. A nursing supervisor said the couple was not registered at the hospital, and did not know if they were transferred or released.
DPS Trooper Oscar Garcia investigated the wreck and was assisted by the Goliad and Bee County Sheriff's' offices and fire departments of Goliad and Bee County, Bryant said.
Goliad County Justice of the Susan Moore conducted an inquest and pronounced the men dead at the scene.
