Happy the horse escapes injury in 2-vehicle crash on Navarro (video)

Police officers look over the damage of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala owned by Kimbre Herrera, 23, of Port Lavaca,  in the wreck that occurred on Navarro and LaSalle Crossing streets.

A Chevrolet Impala collided with a pickup towing a horse trailer Sunday night.

Katy Boyd, 18, of Port Lavaca, was driving a 2013 white Ford F-450 at 7:58 p.m. when she collided with another vehicle at Navarro and LaSalle Crossing streets.

Boyd was towing a trailer carrying her 7-year-old horse, Happy. Boyd's mother, Debbie Boyd, 47, also was in the vehicle.

Kimbre Herrera, 23, of Port Lavaca, who was driving the white 2007 Impala, suffered an injury to her right ankle. Herrera is charged with failing to yield the right of way and not having a valid driver's license.

Herrera declined to be transported for care.

Units from the Victoria Police Department and Victoria Fire Department blocked southbound traffic while cleaning up the debris and an oil spill from the truck.

Boyd and her mother were on their way back home from a barrel racing competition in Alvarado.

"I was worried about my horse more than anything," the Calhoun High School senior said.
