Diabetes Drive-Thru offers free blood glucose screening

• WHAT: Free blood glucose screening, information about diabetes and counseling. Participants remain in their vehicles while they receive the services.

• WHEN: 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 20

Citizens Medical Center will offer free blood glucose screening to participants who drive through its Rio Grande parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 20, according to a news release.

The Diabetes Drive-Thru, which will also offer free information and counseling about the disease when needed, is in recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month. Participants will remain in their vehicles while they receive the services.

Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in Texas. The good news is that lifestyle changes and medical treatment can reverse Type II diabetes, which is most prevalent, according to the news release.
