Cartoon on NRA, letter about race are wrong
Editor, the Advocate:
I object to the publication of the political cartoon on the Viewpoints page of the Nov. 6 Advocate. The cartoon portrays the National Rifle Association as a serpent and thereby links the organization with the devil. It implies that the NRA is basically the cause of gun violence, and it blames the recent LAX incident on the NRA.
The cartoonist fails to present the fact that California has some of the toughest gun control laws in the nation, which indicates that gun control is not the solution to the problem. The cartoonist also fails to include the point that the individual who carried out the LAX incident has had serious mental issues, a concern which has become a recurrent theme in these incidents and which the nation continues to fail to address. Wednesday's cartoon might have been well received in blue states but not in Texas.
In the same issue, a letter titled "Let's work together because 'United we stand'" once again uses the race card as the cause of criticism of Obama. The list of failures is endless, and with 29 videos of the president guaranteeing that citizens can keep their insurance and their doctors, Obama has proven he's nothing but a weak leader and a pathological liar.
