Three people were injured in a three-vehicle wreck on state Highway 72 in Nordheim on Thursday morning.

"A Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on Highway 72, a Kenworth truck-tractor was also eastbound on 72 behind a Ford F-150," Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant said. "The Kenworth truck-tractor ran into the back of the Ford F-150, knocking it forward into the Chevrolet Equinox."

The crash occurred at 11:36 a.m.

William Melanson, 82, of Yorktown, was driving the Ford F-150. He complained of being sore but did not require treatment, Bryant said.

Melanson's passenger, Leland Copeland, 75, of Yorktown, meanwhile, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio.

Copeland was still being treated in the emergency room about 4:30 p.m., a hospital spokeswoman said.

Michael Oakley, 30, of Arlington, was in the Kenworth tractor-trailer. He was not injured, Bryant said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, Katherine Lassmann, 39, and her passenger, Sharon Pargmann, 62, both of Cuero, were injured. They were taken by Cuero EMS to a DeTar Hospital Navarro.

Lassmann and Pargmann were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The crash is being investigated by Trooper Matt Southall.

No charges have been filed.
