D.J. DeLeon, 18, got a taste of New Orleans life last weekend while on a school band trip to perform at the National World War II Museum for Veterans Day.
"It was an awesome experience," said DeLeon, president of the St. Joseph High School band. "It brought us a lot closer as a band family."
DeLeon and 12 other bandmates traveled with their parents and St. Joseph band Director Daryl McCulloch from Friday through Sunday to make the trip.
McCulloch, 60, took his students on a swamp tour, to two prominent Catholic churches, on a steamboat ride and on several other tours around the French Quarter.
"It was really nice," McCulloch said. "All of our kids got to go."
